Pack and Give Back

Declutter with a purpose when you move home

Moving is the perfect opportunity for a start fresh. Instead of letting unwanted items go to waste, you can give them a second life and help local animals cared for by Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home (EDCH) at the same time.
At Ralph Sayer, we call this initiative Pack & Give Back: a simple way to donate when you move home.
 Learn about our EDCH partnership

Why Donate?

  • Lighter move – fewer boxes to pack and less to transport for the move.
  • Fresh start – only take what you love and really need into your new home.
  • Make a difference – your pre-loved items can provide comfort and care for local animals in need who are waiting for their forever homes.

What to donate

Many everyday items make a real difference at EDCH:
  • Clean towels, blankets and throws
  • Unopened bags, tins or sachets of pet food and pet treats (in date)
  • Pet collars, leads, harness, jackets and toys in good condition
  • Shredded paper (long strip rather than crosscut and with the staples removed) as some dogs prefer shredded paper for bedding
Please check the latest guidance before donating.

When to donate

Before you move – decluttering makes your home look its best for the sale.
While packing – set aside items you don’t want to take and donate them before your next move.
After unpacking – if you realise you’ve brought things you don’t need, it’s never too late to donate it to EDCH.

How to donate

  1. Set aside & label donation items so they don’t get packed by mistake.
  2. Drop off directly at EDCH (Seafield Road, Edinburgh) or at one of the donation stations around Edinburgh. (insert donation station link to EDCH page)
  3. Donate online via EDCH’s Amazon Wish List or make a monetary donation using our dedicated link

Why it matters

Every towel, tin of food and toy helps provide warmth, care and comfort. By donating as part of your move, you’re not just creating a fresh start for yourself, you’re also helping to create a fresh start for a local dog or cat in need from your home to theirs.
